Edutopia's Big Thinker Series features Dr. Sasha Barab, creator of the Quest Atlantis program. Dr. Barab talks about the potential of videogames for immersing learners in rich contexts where they get to apply what they are learning. Unlike most other forms of curriculum, the games we design offer entire worlds in which learners become central, important participants; a place where the actions of a ten-year old can have significant impact on the world; a context in which what you know is directly related to what you are able to do and, ultimately, who you become. In our work, we refer to the underlying pedagogy that informs our design work as transformational play
Barbara Cook's first solo album-- 'Songs of Perfect Propriety', poems by Dorothy Parker set to music by Seymour Barab-- issued in 1958 on Urania long-play discs UX113 (mono) and USD1020 (stereo), and, the official Barbara Cook Web Site says, not reissued. The title of each selection presented here is given by Ms. Cook before she sings it. Accompanying her are Julius Baker, flute; Harry Glantz, trumpet; David Weber, clarinet; Loren Glickman, bassoon; and Abba Bogin, piano and conductor. When the album was recorded, Ms. Cook was co-star of 'The Music Man'; her other credits to that time included the Broadway shows 'Flahooley', 'Plain & Fancy', and 'Candide'.
